Reagan Movie

My wife and I saw the Reagan movie on opening night.

Not knowing what to expect, I was thrilled with the movie and plan to see it a second time.

Here are 6 things you should know…

1) Ronald Reagan was one of the most consequential presidents in American history. He reversed the path to socialism and helped defeat communism.

As America’s unlikely president—he was a Hollywood actor—the story clearly shows how he was pivotal in defeating what he termed “the Evil Empire.”

For today’s generation, the Reagan presidency is history. However, the lessons learned from Reagan’s rise to power, and his presidency teach a lot about today and what we should be doing for tomorrow.

2) The Reagan Movie starts with Reagan as a child in Illinois. It depicts his mother’s faith and his ability to quickly learn and memorize things and use these abilities in his church.

It showed his years as an actor and his ability to become the president of the Screen Actors Guild, where he fought the communists who infiltrated Hollywood.

It then takes us to when he ran for governor of California and then President of the United States.

This, of course, set the stage for how Reagan handled and defeated communist Russia.

One of the key aspects of the movie were the principles Reagan fought for—a foundation based on his faith in Jesus Christ.

3) I first met Ronal Reagan when I was in high school. I begged my dad to take me to Inglewood, where he was giving a speech when he was running for governor of California for the first time. I got him to talk and sign a lawn sign.

From that moment on I worked hard for the Reagan campaign. Later, when I had my own ad agency in 1980, my agency handled the direct mail fundraising for his presidential campaign.

4) Many personalities stood out during the movie. One that hit me personally was Dana Rohrabacher, a high school friend who camped out on Ronald Reagan’s lawn. Years later, he became Reagan’s speech writer.

Dana worked with another speech writer, who came up with one of Reagan’s most famous quotes, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall,” during Reagan’s Berlin Wall Speech in West Berlin on June 12, 1987.

The movie shows how the State Department did not want Reagan to deliver that line and how Dana sneaked the President into a revised script without them catching wind of it.

Today, Dana has a new book out in which he recounts that famous day and his time with Reagan. I encourage you to read it.

It will be out soon, and I’ll let you all know when it comes out.

5) I encourage you to take friends and neighbors to see the Reagan Movie. Unless you have a child who is interested in history, current events, or politics, they probably won’t find the movie very interesting.

However, anyone who is in high school or college can watch a movie and learn quite a bit.

6) This movie surprised the liberal media because it had such a strong showing at the box office—it grossed over $10 million in the U.S. and Canada since opening.

I encourage you to see the movie and let me know what you think. Email me at [email protected].
