Gunmen, bloodthirsty street gangs, and looters are roaming the streets of Haiti.
This has caused Haiti to declare a state of emergency.
Over 4,000 inmates broke out of prison and have taken to the streets in Port-au-Prince.
Gang leader Jimmy Chérizier — a former national police member who goes by the nickname “Barbecue,” seized power and has vowed to continue fighting until Prime Minister Ariel Henry and other government officials have resigned.
Dead bodies are piling up in the streets as these criminals kill anyone in their path.
Thousands of civilians have already fled the chaos, but many more are trapped, desperate to get out.
US Missionary Jill Dolan and her family are among the many trapped in Haiti.
Dolan runs an orphanage there through her organization, Love A Neighbor.
She said she’s contacted the US Embassy, but they’ve offered no help.
And although the US military has airlifted embassy workers out of Haiti, there are still many Americans and foreigners who can’t get out.
“My fear is that we will be caught in the middle of something really dangerous. We’re already on the front lines of it. We’re in a bad area,” Dolan said.
Gangs are attacking and burning down police stations and government buildings– the country has become a war zone.
The gangs control the main Toussaint Louverture International Airport, which has been closed since last week, as well as schools, banks, government offices, gas stations, and many hospitals– the few hospitals still operating are running out of medicine. There are also food and water shortages as well.
“We’re worried because we’re in a country where we don’t know what’s going to happen. It’s unpredictable what’s going on, we don’t know,” Dolan said. “Nobody’s reached out to us or anything. And then, of course, when we saw the non-essential workers get picked up, we were thinking, well, maybe they’re going to come back and start evacuating Port-au-Prince and then have a plane for everyone else.”
Unfortunately, the Biden administration and the UN “fiddle” as Haiti burns.
