This actually is a misread of Daniel 3:17-18. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego said God was able to deliver them from the fiery furnace, but might not, and that He would deliver them from the king’s hand (which would happen by their deaths). It was only to the first point that they indicated God might not deliver them. This speaker ends up ascribing contradictory promises to God. If it is true He will do something, He will; if He is able to do something, He may (or may not, at His option). This preacher needs to be consistent in His representation of God by the three men, not saying God will keep a promise and then that He may not keep that very one.
