North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum has announced his bid for GOP presidential candidate.
Bergman is an entrepreneur and has only been in politics since 2016 when he ran and won the governor’s race in North Dakota.
Before that, he worked in the private sector. In 1980, he inherited his family farm. In 1981, he mortgaged his farm to start a technology firm called Great Plains Software, which he sold for $1.1 billion to Microsoft– the software giant hired him to serve as senior vice president.
In 2006, he left Microsoft and started a real estate development firm, the Kilbourne Group, and co-founded software investment company Arthur Ventures in 2008.
His policy positions include improving the economy with strong
free market principles, becoming energy independent, strengthening national security, and rebuilding our military to win the cold war with China.
Burgum just wrapped up a successful legislative session signing one of the largest tax relief packages providing $515 million in savings and legislation that bans abortion after 6 weeks (with some exceptions), bans gender surgeries on children, bans boys from competi
ng in girl’s sporting events, and introduces legislation that prohibits teachers from referring to students by pronouns that go against their biological orientation.
Burgum is facing off against former GOP frontrunner President Donald Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Florida Mayor Francis Suarez, former Vice President Mike Pence, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and Libertarian radio host Larry Elder.
Recent polls have Burgum at 1%.
