I’ve often been told, “My vote doesn’t matter”.
That is simply not true.
In fact, that’s why many good candidates lose, and bad candidates win.
It’s wrong to think that your vote doesn’t count.
Here are 2 reasons your vote matters…
Reason #1: Votes do matter, especially in a close race
In the Primary election this year, a candidate we endorsed in the voter guide, lost by only 11 votes.
In fact, over the last 30 years in making recommendations on our voter guide, I’ve seen literally hundreds of candidates lose by less than 50 vote
s… that adds up to the size of a small church.
Many people feel “my” vote doesn’t count.
Or they don’t have time.
Or they don’t have the desire.
Or they don’t have clarity as to why it’s in their best self-interest to vote.
But just think when you add up many people who do not vote, it helps defeat good candidates and leaves bad candidates open to win.
In this election, only about 20-30% of voters will actually vote (A few of the “hot” races like you have seen in Arizona might go up to 50%-60%).
Of course, important school board races, city council, and county races, such as commissioner or supervisor are the races where you find the closest vote and every vote is essential.
Very few people vote in local elections, they only vote for the top offices.
But even in the larger contests, you can find very close races.
For example, in the important U.S. Senate Republican primary this year in Pennsylvania, the winning candidate was decided by less than 1,000 votes.
Here are some examples of close races:
- S. House race in Iowa, the margin of victory was a mere six votes.
- The election for the Kentucky House of Representatives 13th district ended in a one-vote margin that elected the Democrat challenger over the Republican incumbent.
- In Alaska, the margin for District 1 of the House of Representatives was a single vote following a recount a

nd state supreme court challenge.
- Idaho Senate District 15 was decided 11-vote margin (0.0615%) after a recount widened the original lead of only 6 votes for the Republican incumbent.
- District 5A of the Minnesota House of Representatives was decided by 11 votes, a margin of 0.06510% of the votes cast.
Reason #2: The “fake news” pollsters and cheaters want to discourage you
It’s no secret that there have been voting “irregularities” over the last few years that have discouraged a lot of people from participating in the voting process. When Hillary lost, all we heard was that the Russians interfered in our elections– although no proof has ever been produced to support that claim.
In addition, the “fake news” pollsters are often wrong in their predictions, which mostly break for the Democrat politicians.
This has caused a lot of voters to falsely believe that their vote won’t make any difference… it’s demoralizing to think your candidate won’t win, and it keeps most voters home.
But votes do matter, and we must never be discouraged from voting…
Your vote could make all the difference, especially in a very close race.
Voting is doing what’s right despite the circumstances. It’s for those who have the heart to want to see America turn around and the heart to be a good citizen.
That is why I love this story from a courageous and persistent reader:
“Thank you,
In a few weeks, I will be a 98-year-old World War 2 veteran very concerned about what is happening in our country.
Life at 97 is still worthwhile but very difficult, especially being nearly blind.
I just finished completing my ballot just in case I can’t make it to vote at the Vote Center.
I’m grateful for your voter guide which reduced the time and energy to complete the ballot.” -Bill
John Quincy Adams said it best: “Duty is ours, results are God’s”
Here are 4 things you can do to help:

- And please… pray.
As Proverbs 29:2 says: “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked rule, the people groan”.
It is time to stop the groaning.
