I mentioned about how 50 years ago I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior and was baptized by Pastor Chuck Smith in Pirate’s Cove in Newport, California.
The Calvary Chapel baptisms are depicted very well in the Jesus Revolution movie. See the article, “The Jesus Revolution Movie: Its Story is Powerful And True – I Know. I Was There – 11 Things Every Person Should Know About This Movie, The Asbury Revival And God’s Timing [VIDEO]” by clicking HERE.
I was excited that about a month ago, 4,100 people were baptized at Pirate’s Cove Beach, which was one of the largest baptisms in U.S. history.
Pastor Greg Laurie outdid it last week with over 4,500 people baptized.
People came from across the U.S. Many of them had attended the Harvest Crusade led by Pastor Laurie, where 32,500 people listened to several days of Christian music and his call to repentance. During the crusade, 6794 people made decisions to dedicate their lives to Christ. (Greg Laurie’s story of salvation baptism was the focus of the Jesus Revolution film.)
Pastor Greg told those gathered on the rocks watching “You’re saying goodbye to the old you, buried with Christ in baptism so you might walk in newness of life, that’s what the bible says, so you’re coming out saying, ‘I’m making this commitment’ and you’re doing it publicly in front of friends and family,” he said.
After the baptism, Pastor Greg said, “Yesterday, we held the Jesus Revolution Baptism at Pirate’s Cove. This of course is the Site of the Baptisms of the Jesus Movement. I was Baptized there 50 Years ago, as was my wife, Cathe. But we never had a baptism like what happened yesterday. We baptized 4500 people!”
Be sure to watch this video of the recent baptism, by clicking HERE. I think you’ll be blessed and excited. And this painting above is Pastor Chuck and me at Pirate’s Cove.

Hey Craig! I was there with you 50 years ago, Wow, does not seen that long ago either! Don McClure baptized me in May of 1973 I believe and Mike McIntosh married us later in August of ’73. I served my usual capacity assisting with the White Shirt Security Team at the Honda Center. It was great but, as you would think, too small and thousands had to be turned away.
So glad to know the number exceeded the estimated 3,500. Can’t imagine the parking struggle though. It’s amazing what Jesus can do! Love Jesus!
Blessings to you and yours Craig! (Looking forward to seeing you again soon.)
