Across America, state after state is strengthening voter ID laws, requiring various measures to stop election fraud, including ballot harvesting and other ways that negatively impact the integrity of an election.
Some cities have decided to take it upon themselves to ensure voter integrity.
For example, in California, Huntington Beach has Measure 1, Voter ID, and Election Rules Amendments.
This smart, well-done document does the following:
- Authorize the City of Huntington Beach to require voter identification for elections
- Provide at least 20 ADA-compliant in-person voting locations within Huntington Beach
- Provide that ballot drop boxes are to be monitored for compliance
- Define an elector as a citizen of the U.S., a resident of Huntington Beach, and at least 18 years old
- State that, in the event of a conflict between the Huntington Beach Charter and the California Election Code, the Charter shall prevail
With these provisions, voter integrity is strengthened.
With these provisions, fair elections are made more possible.
With these changes, some of the greatest ways of cheating are eliminated.
It does not stop ballot harvesting because that’s
allowed by California law.
It does not stop mass main-in ballots because that’s also allowed by California law.
It does not stop drop boxes, but it ensures they will be supervised.
How about your city?
Can it do the same?
Hopefully, you can be an instrument within your area to ensure that your city requires these types of election rules.
