The Great Deceit Immigrants Built America Not Really—Here are 3 Things You Should Know

Illegal immigration now costs taxpayers over $100 billion a year.

It’s a burden to all states, not just the border states.

For example, in states far away from the southern border, such as Illinois, that cost was $4.59 billion in 2022. That’s $930 per household. Every year.

The crisis on the southern border costs California $21.76 billion a year and Texas $8.88 billion annually in education, health care, law enforcement, criminal justice system costs, welfare expenditures, and more.

Yet, President Biden, the Democrats, and the biased media love to tell us how much we need illegal immigrants and open borders.

Here are 3 things you should know about illegal Immigrants and the lie they built America…

1) The Deceit

Illegal Immigrants help build America.

“Look, they built the country,” Biden told Jonathan Capehart during an interview on MSNBC. He added that they are “the reason our economy is growing.”

Yes, indeed, many illegal immigrants come here to work.

However, the idea that illegal immigrants crossing the southern border “built the country” is ridiculous. Many are uneducated, unskilled workers who work doing menial jobs. Many more are unemployed and on welfare.

2) Reality

At the turn of the 20th century, 14.8% of Americans were legal immigrants. Obviously, they weren’t responsible for building America.

As of 2018, illegal immigrants didn’t constitute the majority of any jobs in the US.

Even the people who build things, such as construction workers, are 65% native-born.

However, it is true that legal and illegal immigrants have made an outsized contribution to recent economic growth but not to building America.

3) America does have a labor problem

Over the last four years, foreign-born employment has increased by 3.3 million, but native-born employment has decreased by a million.

1.3 million new jobs are now held by foreign-born workers.

According to Bureau of Labor Statistics data, immigrants comprise roughly 20% of the US— just over 30 million out of 168 million.

Meanwhile, 2.6 million native-born workers joined the labor force over the same period, a 2% increase. See my article: Economy Warning: “Blockbuster Jobs Report” is a sham. Here are 8 Reasons This is Deception at its Worst…

Steve Camarota of the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) estimates that roughly half of the low-end jobs are going to illegal immigrants.

According to the CIS, “the labor-force participation rate of native-born men without a bachelor’s degree is 75.6%, still lower than the pre-pandemic level of 76.3% in the fourth quarter of 2019, and lower than in 2006 (80.5%) and 2000 (82.6%).”

Constantly adding less-skilled immigrant workers to the labor force may increase overall GDP, but it doesn’t make the U.S. wealthier per capita.

According to a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) analysis, greater immigration levels will increase GDP “by an average of 0.2 percentage points a year from 2024 to 2034, leaving real GDP roughly 2% larger in 2034 than it would be otherwise.” On the other hand, real GDP per person “would be 0.8% smaller.”
